Electrical work & EICR in Ilford
We organise electrical work for homes, rentals and shops across Ilford, East London and Essex. Installations and EICR reports are carried out and certified through our NICEIC-registered electrical partner, so one team can handle the electrics along with the rest of your job.
Electrical work we cover
- EICR reports: electrical installation condition reports for landlords, buyers and homeowners.
- Consumer units: old fuse boards replaced with a new, fully labelled unit with RCD or RCBO protection and surge protection.
- Rewires: full and partial rewires, often alongside a renovation.
- Sockets and lighting: extra sockets, downlights and new lighting circuits.
- Fire alarms: supplied and fitted as part of refurbishments and rentals.
- Kitchens, bathrooms and extensions: the electrics planned with the rest of the build.
EICR reports for landlords
In England, private landlords must have the electrical installation inspected and tested at least every five years, and give a copy of the report to tenants. The inspector tests the fixed wiring, sockets, lights and consumer unit, then records any faults by code. If the report finds faults that must be fixed, the work is quoted separately and a follow-up confirms it has been done. We also arrange gas safety certificates and repairs, which helps if you manage several properties.
When to upgrade a consumer unit
You should have an old fuse board checked if it has rewirable fuses, no RCD protection, or a plastic casing with signs of heat. Upgrading is also common when a kitchen, loft or extension adds new circuits. Each job is tested and certified when it is finished, and the circuits are clearly labelled so you know what each breaker controls.
Electrics during a renovation
Electrics work in two stages. First fix happens before plastering, when cables and back boxes go into the walls. Second fix happens after decorating, when sockets, switches and lights go on. Planning socket positions early costs very little and avoids chasing into new plaster later. Because we run the other trades too, the electrician, plasterer and decorator are booked in the right order.
Signs you should call an electrician
- Fuses or breakers that trip again and again.
- Sockets or switches that feel warm, crackle or smell of burning.
- Lights that flicker when appliances switch on.
- Old wiring with fabric or rubber insulation.
- Damp or a leak near electrical fittings.
If you smell burning or see sparks, switch off at the consumer unit if it is safe to do so, and call a qualified electrician straight away.
