Commercial safety vinyl

Polysafe safety flooring installation in London & Essex

Polysafe is Polyflor's range of safety vinyl flooring, made for areas where a slip is likely: commercial kitchens, wet rooms, care homes, school corridors, changing rooms and shop floors. We supply and install it for businesses, landlords and contractors across London and Essex, working to the specification you or your client set.

How much does Polysafe flooring cost?

Polysafe is priced per m² after a free site survey. The total depends on the Polysafe range and colour, the floor area, how much subfloor preparation is needed, and the edge details your specification asks for (for example coved skirting or welded seams). We give you a written, itemised quote so you can compare like with like.

Where safety flooring is used

  • Restaurant and commercial kitchens
  • Care homes, surgeries and clinics
  • Schools and nurseries
  • Bathrooms, wet rooms and changing areas in HMOs and rentals
  • Shops, offices and staff areas

How we work

We survey the floor, agree the specification and programme with you, prepare the subfloor, install the flooring and hand over with photographs of the finished area. For contractors and facilities teams we can work out of hours to keep kitchens and sites running. We only take on details we can deliver to the agreed specification, and we tell you up front if a job needs a specialist.

Why safety vinyl instead of standard vinyl or tiles

Standard vinyl and polished tiles can become slippery when wet or greasy. Safety vinyl has particles built through the wear layer, so the floor keeps its grip as it wears rather than relying on a surface coating. The Health and Safety Executive measures slip resistance with a pendulum test value (PTV). A wet PTV of 36 or above is classed as low slip potential. Check the product data for the PTV and for the conditions it was tested in, and match the range to the use. A kitchen with oil and water on the floor needs a different grade from a dry corridor.

Edge details that keep floors hygienic

  • Coved skirting: the vinyl curves up the wall on a former and finishes under a capping strip. There is no corner for dirt or water to collect in.
  • Heat-welded seams: joints are sealed with a welding rod melted into a groove, so water cannot get under the sheet.
  • Drain and gully details: the vinyl is dressed into floor drains in wet rooms and kitchens with a sealed clamping ring.
  • Thresholds: transitions to other floors are planned so they are not a trip hazard.

Subfloor preparation

Sheet vinyl shows every lump underneath it, so the base must be smooth, dry and sound. On concrete we test moisture, because a wet slab can lift the adhesive. Uneven floors get a smoothing compound. Timber floors are overboarded with ply. Old tiles, adhesive and failed vinyl are removed first. Preparation is often the biggest variable in the price, which is why we survey before quoting.

Cleaning and aftercare

Safety vinyl needs regular cleaning to keep its grip. Grease and soap left on the surface reduce slip resistance. Follow the manufacturer's cleaning guide for your range, and use the cleaning products it recommends. Keep sharp chair legs and dragged equipment off the surface. Small cuts and damaged welds can usually be repaired without replacing the whole floor.

Questions people ask

Do you install Polysafe in commercial kitchens?

Yes. We supply and install Polysafe safety vinyl for commercial kitchens, care settings, schools, wet areas and offices across London and Essex.

How much does Polysafe flooring cost per m²?

It is priced per m² after a free site survey, because the range, area, subfloor preparation and edge details all change the total. You get a written, itemised quote.

Can you work as a flooring subcontractor?

Yes. We work with refurbishment contractors, facilities managers and letting agents who need reliable safety flooring capacity.

What slip resistance should a commercial kitchen floor have?

HSE classes a wet pendulum test value of 36 or more as low slip potential. Choose a safety vinyl range tested for wet and greasy conditions, and keep it clean.

Can you install Polysafe in a working kitchen?

Yes, with planning. The old floor comes up, the subfloor is prepared and the vinyl laid, then the adhesive and welds need time before equipment goes back. We programme it around closing days or out of hours.

Can safety vinyl go up the walls?

Yes. Coved skirting turns the vinyl up the wall with no corner joint, which makes kitchens, toilets and wet rooms easier to clean.
